Watches come at all levels of quality, and are available at all different prices. In fact, you might actually be astounded by the price variation of different watches. Whereas some watches can be bought for under ten dollars, other watches can cost millions.

To illustrate this variation in price, we're going to discuss the most expensive watches in the world today. These luxury watches not only perform exceptionally, they possess impeccable construction quality as well.

The Most Expensive Watches in the World

The world's most expensive watches carry extreme value for a number of different reasons. In most cases, however, they are either manufactured with rare and valuable materials, or they carry some sort of historical significance.

Now that we've covered that, let's get into the rankings.

1. Graff Diamonds Hallucination ($55 Million)

Currently, the most expensive watch in the world is the Graff Diamonds Hallucination. This watch is worth a staggering 55 million dollars, exceeding the next most expensive watch by a cool 15 million dollars.

The reason for its expense lies in its unique design. This design includes 110 carats of differently-colored diamonds being placed upon a platinum bracelet.

First revealed in Switzerland at the Baselworld Watch and Jewelry Show, this watch immediately stood out for its gaudy and intricate aesthetic.

2. Graff Diamonds The Fascination ($40 Million)

The second most expensive watch in the world also comes from Graff Diamonds. This watch is known as The Fascination, and it costs 40 million dollars.

In total, The Fascination contains 152.96 carats of diamonds. These diamonds are all white, giving the watch a glowing and shimmering appearance that is rivaled by few others.

We should also note that this watch's 38.13-carat centerpiece can be removed and used as a ring. The point is: this is one of the more unique watches in the world today.

3. Breguet Marie-Antoinette Grande Complication Pocket Watch ($30 Million)

Coming in at 30 million dollars, the Breguet Marie-Antoinette Grande Complication Pocket Watch is the third most expensive watch in the world today. Unlike the Graff watches reviewed above, this watch is valuable due -- in large part -- to its historical significance.

Ordered in 1782 by a lover of French Queen Marie Antoinette, it was to be given to the Queen upon its completion. However, because the watch took 40 years to be completed, and because Marie Antoinette died in 1793, she was never able to receive it.

Nonetheless, it is a unique and attractive pocket watch which catches eyes to this day.

4. Chopard 201-Carat Watch ($25 Million)

The next of the luxury watches on our list is the Chopard 201-Carat Watch. This watch possesses a total value of 25 million dollars.

The reason for this? It's loaded with diamonds. 201 carats of diamonds, to be exact.

These diamonds come in a number of different shapes, sizes, and colors. The colors you will come across on this watch include blue, white, yellow, and pink.

5. Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication ($24 Million)

Just a bit less expensive than the Chopard reviewed above is this Patek Supercomplication watch which was commissioned by American banker Henry Graves. Graves commissioned the watch in an effort to outperform the watch of American automobile pioneer James Ward Packer.

Today, Graves' watch is worth 24 million dollars. This is due mostly to its functionality, which is nothing short of extraordinary.

Not only does this watch tell time, it also serves as a calendar, as a sunrise and sunset indicator, and as a minute repeater. In short, it's one of the most unique watches ever developed.

6. Jacob & Co. Billionaire Watch ($18 Million)

Next up on our list is a watch from Jacob & Co. Available for 18 million dollars, this watch is known as the Billionaire Watch.

Consisting of 260 carats of emerald diamonds, this watch combines an intriguing aesthetic with a practical outlay to produce a timepiece which is equal parts unique and functional.

7. Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 ($11 Million)

The 7th most expensive watch in the world today is the Patek Philippe Ref. 1518. Available for 7 million dollars, it's the first watch in a four-watch series of watches released by Patek Philippe in 1941.

Truthfully speaking, this watch isn't a great deal different from most other luxury watches on the market. However, for a Patek Philippe watch, it is quite unique.

What makes it unique? Its stainless steel body. Most other Patek Phillipe watch bodies are made out of rose gold or yellow gold.

8. Hublot Big Bang ($5 Million)

Next up, we'll discuss the Hublot Big Bang watch. The 8th most expensive watch in the world, it is available for 5 million dollars.

This watch is unbelievably detailed and nuanced, possessing a total of 1,280 individual diamonds. Each and every one of these diamonds was hand cut, and contains -- at the very least -- 3 carats.

To put it simply, this is one of the most stylish watches you're ever going to come across. Nothing else out there is quite like it.

9. Louis Moinet Meteoris ($4.6 Million)

Coming in as the 9th most expensive watch on the planet is the Louis Moinet Meteoris. Available for 4.6 million dollars, it is expensive mostly due to its exclusivity. There were only 4 of these watches ever manufactured.

This isn't to say that this watch is boring or dysfunctional; it's not. In fact, it possesses an incredibly unique look which you rarely see in other watches. Not to mention, it actually contains small amounts of moon rock.

10. Breguet Antique Number 2667 ($4.5 Million)

Rounding out our list of the most expensive watches in the world is the Breguet Antique Number 2667. Available for 4.5 million dollars, it is the 10th most expensive watch in the world today.

This is a pocket watch with a yellow gold case of 18 carats. Sporting a fairly standard design, it's not flashy, but it does evoke a sense of class.

Possessing two full clocks within its face, it also possesses a second-ticker. This allows it to keep time with absolute precision on a consistent basis.
